ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THE 2008-09 ROCKETS SEASON!
 
Rockets will be tentatively announcing head coaches for each age group.  Stay tuned for a wonderful cast of coaches!
 
TRYOUTS Dates
Tryout dates are set for Nov 1, 2, 5, 8, 9, 16.  There are 2 tryout dates for each age group - we encourage you to attend both, but it is NOT mandatory/necessary .  All tryouts are held at Scanlon gym.  You MUST pre-register with the Iowa Region (www.iavbreg.org) before attending ANY try-out (cost $38)  It is highly recommended that you pre-register for Rockets tryouts - cost will be $20.  If you register at the door on the day of the tryout, cost is $25.  Our hope is that on-line registration will make registration faster and more accurate. We are still working on our on-line registration web pages - please come back in a few weeks to register. Tryouts are as follows...  
 
Saturday Nov 1st    12s and 13s   (5th/6th/7th grades)  5-7pm
                             14s   (8th grade)  7-9pm
 
Sunday Nov 2nd    15s   (9th grade)  1-3pm
                            16s  (10th grade)  3-5pm
 
Wednesday Nov 5th   12 and 13s   (5th/6th/7th grades)  7-9 pm
 
Saturday Nov 8th   14s   (8th grade)  1-3pm
                            15s   (9th grade)  3-5pm
 
Sunday Nov 9th    16s  (10th grade)  1-3pm
                          17s and 18s   (11th/12th grades)  3-5:30pm
 
Sunday Nov 16th   Any 15s or 16s involved in the State VB tournament and ALL 17s and 18s  12:30 to 3pm.
 
Iowa Rockets does not recruit players.  Every season is a new start for every team and every player. We are always very happy to see so many new faces each season.  If you see any of our coaches at a match, please come up and talk with us!  We're happy to answer questions and talk volleyball.  And we don't have to talk about Rockets or club volleyball at all.  We simply enjoy all kinds of volleyball folks and love to watch the matches and hob nob with fellow VB enthusiasts.

These camps will be held sometime between Dec 26th and 31st. (We’re still working out some details.)

All tryouts are at Scanlon Gym (in Mercer Park Aquatic Center) – 2701 Bradford Drive, Iowa City  (located next to SouthEast Jr. High)

If you make a Rockets team:  CONGRATULATIONS and hang on for a GREAT season!

1. Please attend the mandatory Parent/Player/Coach meeting.  It is important to have the athlete and at least 1 parent present for the meeting.  You will have a chance to meet everyone, talk to your coaches and teammates, and maybe even win a door prize.  We will fill out forms, order uniforms, talk about scheduling tournaments, and get a December schedule of play-days, fundraisers, and clinics.  The meeting will be held at First Christian Church at 7:30pm on Tuesday Nov 18th.   Directions to FCC listed below.  PLEASE DO NOT PARK ON THE GRASS!!
2. Please bring a copy of the Iowa Region Waiver and Release of Liability form.  You should have printed this out when you completed your on-line registration with the Iowa Region.  It requires on-line signatures. 

3. Please bring your medical insurance information, immunization records and your daughter’s social security number. (download medical form)
4. Please bring your family's Spring schedule.  We need to know about any family vacations (eg. Spring Break) or special events (eg. Weddings) that your player will not be available.  This information will be used to help determine your daughter's team Tournament Schedule.

5. Please bring a checkbook (with at least 3 blank checks) for the first installment. (Black & R teams-$235 in 3 installments;  Gold teams-$185 in 3 installments, 12s teams-$135 in 3 installments.)  Thank you.

·         Players must register on-line with the Iowa Region Volleyball before attending a tryout (membership / insurance / etc).  Please follow the directions on the Iowa Region website. 

·         Iowa Rockets Tryout fee is $20  (check payable to Iowa Rockets VBC)    ($25 at the door)

·         Plan on a parent/player/coach meeting – see note #1 above

12s - born on or after Sept 1, 1996
13s - born on or after Sept 1, 1995
14s - born on or after Sept 1, 1994
15s - born on or after Sept 1, 1993
16s - born on or after Sept 1, 1992
17s - born on or after Sept 1, 1991
18s - born on or after Sept 1, 1990 or still in high school
Teams for girls ages 11 and 12 (and 13 and 14) will have a gentler introduction to club volleyball. We encourage anyone to try-out because volleyball 'experience' is not necessary. We love to teach girls who are willing to learn, fun-loving, and enjoy sports. The teams for this age group will cost less and only go to nearby tournaments. Remember that although our older Iowa Rockets teams have a reputation for dedicated, highly skilled players; these players didn't start out that way. We teach the girls to enjoy the game first, as they learn the skills to make them successful. Proceed south to the first stoplight, turn left onto Scott Blvd.

Turn left onto Bradford, proceed ¼ mile.  Scanlon Gym (Mercer Park) will be on your right.
